Description
We cover a lot of period costuming in my costume class, creating garments from different eras and learning different construction techniques. This is definitely one of my favorite projects, the 18th Century Wench.
Needless to say, I went a slightly different direction than the average bar or tavern wench and went pirate instead. One of my classmates joined me on the pirate adventure and our costumes actually match, in reverse. Her costume is a pink front and green overskirt with a blue underksirt and she has the opposite sleeves. (Yes, they are meant to NOT match)
Part of our learning was how to break down garments, to make them look old and worn, and adding stains, mud etc. That part was a lot of fun, I have to admit.
This picture was taken out front of the historic Sydney Hospital while I was on my way to the Royal Botanical Gardens for our wench picnic.
